Swan Lake - Ballet and classical music

January 14 at 16 h 00 min - 18 h 00 min

Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) came up with the idea for Swan Lake while staging a show using wood-carved swans for his nieces at his Ukrainian estate of Kamenka.

Drawing on ancient Nordic legends, Tchaikovsky composed this grand "white ballet" between 1875 and 1879, in which young girls are transformed into swans by a fearsome curse.

This gentle, melancholy work has long been misunderstood. It was Marius Petipa, ballet master and choreographer born in Marseille before living in Russia, who gave it his own choreographic interpretation in 1895.

"Swan Lake" went on to become one of the most popular ballets in history. In fact, it remains the most frequently performed in the world. A mythical classic interpreted here with all the rigor and grace of the 35 dancers of this excellent Ukrainian troupe. A timeless must to discover or rediscover.
